My name is Rick Eddy, I am the Chief Prosecutor for the City of Lima and I'm running for Lima Municipal Court Judge. As Judge I will be fair and impartial. I will follow the law and the constitution and work to keep our county safe, as I've done throughout my career as a prosecutor. Accountability is key.

I am a lifelong resident of Allen County, Ohio. I live here with my wife Laura, and our children Ritchie, Raven and Falon. Our family also includes our four rescue dogs who are all spoiled rotten. When not at work we all love watching the Buckeyes and spending time together as a family. I am also an avid musician. I am a conservative who is pro-life and pro first and second amendment.

Experience

City of Lima Law Department.

I began working for the City of Lima in July of 2008 as an Assistant Prosecutor. I was tasked with prosecuting cases at the Lima Municipal Court full time. I prosecuted thousands of cases during this time. I conducted hundreds of motion hearings and trials to the court. I have had approximately 30 jury trials. In April of 2016 I became the Chief Prosecutor in the criminal division of the Law Department. In this capacity I have supervised the prosecution of all criminal cases before the Court. I also supervise a staff of paralegals and assistants in addition to the assistant prosecutors.

Experience matters. I always tell interns and new attorneys that a trial is the field of battle. By embracing being in court you learn how contested hearings, trials, and jury trials work. You learn the flow of these tasks as well as how a full docket of cases work. Having this type of experience is crucial to presiding over a court. I have this experience.

Hardin County Job and Family Services

As an employee of HCJ0FS I was tasked with prosecuting children services cases to protect the children of Hardin County. Although the subject matter was often ugly and troubling, it was one of the most rewarding jobs of my life. I was also a supervisor while employed by HCJFS.

Hardin County Prosecutor’s Office

As a county prosecutor I prosecuted juvenile cases ranging from truancy to crimes that would be classified as a felony if the offender was an adult, I also prosecuted adult felonies as well as children services cases

Eddy Law Office

While maintaining a full time, then part time private practice I focused on criminal law, family law, and probate. This endeavor was the beginning of my trial experience where I gained valuable experience successfully handling and trying cases. This experience is important because it taught me how to represent the citizens of Allen County and the surrounding areas. It also gives me insight into the perspective private attorney’s face when before the court, especially the Lima Municipal Court where I regularly practiced.

Vision for the Court

Accountability is key. The more severe the crime, the more accountability is necessary. With respect to nonviolent offenders the goal is to help people get back on track. The Lima Municipal Court’s probation department and staff are top notch. I have worked with them on a daily basis for over fourteen years, both as a prosecutor and chief prosecutor. I will work to keep the community safe, as well as help offenders get back on track.

Expanding Probation

Although some do, not every person who is convicted of a crime needs to go to jail. Probation is a means to hold people accountable while providing services to address their needs and get them back on track. Expanding probation services from pre-trial services to actual probation is critical.

Addressing Mental Health Services

Our community has had an influx of individuals recently who have competency issues and have been charged with committing a crime. Without services these people fall through the cracks and become a danger to themselves and others. Myself, the courts, probation, and local service providers are meeting to address these needs. This needs to continue and be expanded.

Drug Court

I am an original member of both drug courts at the court. My participation initially was as an assistant prosecutor where I helped identify potential drug court members. My involvement now continues as the supervisor over the assistant prosecutors directly handling these cases. Drug court works. I have seen this first hand. It needs to be continued and built upon.
